Our Founder, Karl E. Stowe

Karl Stowe has spent his entire adult life in service to education, driven by a deep belief in the power of knowledge to transform individuals, families, and communities. His academic journey began at Delaware State University, where he earned a B.A. in Political Science and History. He went on to expand his understanding of society and leadership by attaining an M.A. in Sociology from William Paterson University and an M.A. in Educational Administration and Supervision from Kean University.

Karl’s career reflects a rare breadth of experience. He has taught at every level of the educational system—elementary, middle school, high school, and higher education, giving him a holistic understanding of how students grow, learn, and thrive. In the classroom, he has guided high school students through African American History, AP African American Studies, Latin American History, World History, United States History, and Sociology.

For more than 25 years, Karl has also served as an Adjunct Instructor at the college and university level. His courses—ranging from Foundations of American Education and Introduction to Sociology to Social Inequality, Marriage and Family, Sociology of Education, and Qualitative Methods in Social Research—reflect his commitment to helping future educators and scholars understand the social forces that shape our world.

As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Legacy Academy, Karl brings all of these experiences together. His leadership is rooted in a vision of education that honors heritage, cultivates critical thinking, and prepares young people to build meaningful futures. Whether teaching in a classroom or shaping an institution, Karl remains guided by the same core purpose: to leave a legacy of learning that empowers generations.

As a dedicated public school educator in the city of Passaic, Karl has spent his career teaching and advancing causes related to social justice. Karl has served for many years as a club advisor at Passaic High School’s Diversity 2000 Club and represented the district on the Kean University Diversity Council. During his tenure, Karl chaired the Narrowing the Achievement Gap initiative and contributed as both a facilitator and member of the executive , assisting the council in ways to foster a school culture based on sensitivity and understanding. Karl was also a board member of Passaic Racial Equity Committee, in which he facilitated conversations addressing Social Justice and how it can be used to inspire both teachers and students.

Karl is passionate about building environments where individuals feel seen, supported, and empowered to succeed. He continues to seek opportunities to collaborate with educators, community leaders, and organizations seeking knowledge to build positive relationships both inside and outside the workplace setting. The Village Academy, LLC can provide organizations with experienced facilitators that help to build positive relationships. In order for positive relationships to be established, knowing yourself and understating your purpose is crucial to having personal and professional success.
